Wine Making Starter Kit
When you are ready to begin making wine, be sure to purchase a wine making starter kit. It’s the simplest way to get started.
E.C. Krauss sells wine making starter kits and their three different starter kits are called YourFruit! Necessities Box, SunCal Necessities Box and California Connoisseur Necessities Box.
YourFruit! Necessities ($89 approx) lets you use fruits of your own choice while SunCal Necessities Box ($99 approx) uses concentrates and the California Connoisseur Necessities Box ($159 approx) has all the different ingredients possible.
The choice of which one to use is a function of your ambition!
In your wine making starter kit, you can expect to get everything you need to produce a great first batch of wine. More than likely, you’ll receive a a twenty five to thirty liter fermenting bucket with a sealable lid to lock the air out. The air lock and one way stopper should allow the carbon dioxide to escape but should prevent oxygen from entering.
Wine maker starter kits also come with a long handle stirring spoon and a thermometer as well as a glass or plastic carboy into which the wine is transferred for bulk aging and clearing. A siphoning tube is required to transfer the wine between the fermenting bucket and carboy. Some sanitizer and an instruction manual will typically be included and there may also be a hydrometer with a sample jar plus a crown capper or wine corker.
Along with the equipment come the grape concentrate, grape juice as well as sugar to complete the wine making starter kit. Some yeast, sanitizing powder and finings or clarifier should also be included. If you want to have some fun, look for kits which enable you to add some flavor such as oak chips and elderberry.
Wine making starter kits come with recipes to remove all guessing and provide easy to understand instructions for the novice and budding wine maker. And cost wise, you can expect the wine making starter kits to be considerably less than you’d pay for wine at the store.
